What’s included

Interior painting services we offer

Viora Painting is a residential painting contractor in Katy, TX. Our interior painting service covers every painted surface inside your home and the repairs that come before it, from a single accent wall to a full repaint before a move.

Wall painting

Full color changes, accent walls, or a fresh coat in the same color. Single rooms, whole floors or the entire house.

Ceiling painting

Flat ceilings throughout, tall two-story family-room and entry ceilings, and stain-blocking primer over old water marks.

Trim, baseboard and crown molding

Filled, caulked and sanded before painting, usually in a satin or semi-gloss that wipes clean and stands up to vacuums and feet.

Interior doors and door frames

Panel and flat doors, closet doors and frames, painted for a smooth, even finish without drips in the panels.

Drywall repair

Nail pops, holes, dents, corner cracks and taped seams are patched, sanded and primed before painting. Large water damage is quoted separately.

Stair railings, spindles and built-ins

Detailed woodwork that takes extra time and care. It is listed as its own line item, so you can decide what to include.

Something not listed? Describe it in your estimate request and we will tell you whether we take it on.

Room by room

The right paint for every room

The best product and sheen depend on how a room is used. Here is what we think about in each one.

Living and family rooms

The rooms everyone sees and uses most. In open floor plans, walls, ceilings and trim are planned together so colors and sheens flow from one space to the next.

Kitchens

Walls near the range and sink collect grease and splashes, so a scrubbable finish matters more here than anywhere else. Walls are cleaned before painting so the new coat bonds. Updating the cabinets too? See cabinet painting.

Bathrooms and laundry rooms

Steam and Gulf Coast humidity are hard on paint. These rooms call for a moisture- and mildew-resistant product in a satin or higher sheen, applied over clean, dry walls.

Bedrooms and nurseries

Low-odor, low-VOC paints are a good fit where people sleep. Bedrooms can be scheduled so you always have somewhere to sleep, and a nursery can be done well ahead of a due date.

Home offices

Tell us your work schedule and we will paint the office on days you are out, or do it first and move on.

Hallways, stairwells and entries

High-traffic walls take the most scuffs, so a durable, washable finish pays off. Tall foyers and stairwell walls need extension equipment or scaffolding, which is included in the estimate.

Our process

Our interior painting process, step by step

Most of the difference between an average paint job and a great one is decided before the first coat.

  1. Walkthrough and written estimateWe look at each room, note repairs and send an itemized estimate listing every surface, product and number of coats.
  2. SchedulingRooms are scheduled in an order that keeps the house livable while we work.
  3. Protect the roomFloors are covered, furniture is moved to the center of the room and covered, and switch plates and outlet covers are removed and kept together.
  4. Repair and primeHoles and nail pops are filled, cracks repaired, trim gaps caulked, patches sanded, and repairs and stains spot-primed so nothing shows through.
  5. PaintCeilings first, then walls, then trim and doors. Edges are cut in by hand, walls rolled evenly, and each surface gets the coats in your estimate.
  6. Final walkthrough and cleanupWe walk every room with you in good light, finish touch-ups, put furniture back and leave labeled leftover paint for later.

Sheens & colors

Choosing paint sheens and colors

Sheen changes how a color looks, how well a wall cleans and how much it shows imperfections. These are common starting points; we will go through your rooms during the walkthrough.

SheenBest forWhat to know
Flat / matteCeilings, formal living and dining rooms, bedroomsHides minor wall imperfections best. Washability varies by product: some modern mattes clean well, others mark easily.
EggshellLiving areas, bedrooms, hallwaysA soft, low sheen that wipes clean better than most flats. A common choice for whole-house walls.
SatinKitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, kids’ roomsMore durable and moisture-tolerant. Shows wall flaws more than lower sheens, so prep matters more.
Semi-glossBaseboards, door and window casing, doorsHard-wearing and easy to wipe down. Highlights every dent, so trim is filled and sanded first.

Color tips before you decide

  • Test large samples on the wall.Small chips mislead. Use samples at least the size of a sheet of paper on two different walls.
  • Look at them through the day.Strong afternoon sun and cool morning light change how a color reads, especially on west-facing walls.
  • Check against fixed finishes.Floors, countertops, cabinets and brick fireplaces have undertones that can make a neutral look pink, green or gray.
  • Plan the whole sightline. In open floor plans, colors that are seen together should be chosen together.

Signs your interior is ready for fresh paint

  • Scuffs and marks no longer wipe off without taking paint with them
  • Touch-ups show as shiny or mismatched patches on builder-flat walls
  • Nail pops, settling cracks or seams showing through the paint
  • Peeling or bubbling paint in bathrooms or around windows
  • Colors that feel dated or clash with new floors, counters or furniture
  • You are getting ready to sell, or moving in before the furniture arrives

Local know-how

What we plan for in Katy-area homes

Homes around Katy share a few things that affect how an interior should be painted.

Builder-grade flat paint

Many homes built in the last twenty years still have the builder’s flat wall paint. It touches up easily but marks and does not scrub clean. A first repaint is the right time to move to a washable matte or eggshell.

Nail pops and settling cracks

Newer homes settle, which shows up as nail pops, cracked corners and visible drywall seams. We fix these properly before painting rather than painting over them.

Two-story foyers and stairwells

Tall entry walls, stairwells and family-room ceilings are common in the area. The ladders, extension poles or scaffolding needed are included in the estimate, never added later.

Humidity and drying time

Houston-area humidity slows drying. We keep the A/C running where possible, allow proper time between coats and use mildew-resistant products in bathrooms.

Open floor plans

Kitchens, breakfast areas and family rooms often flow into each other in Katy-area homes. Colors and sheens for connected spaces are planned together so the house reads as one.

Getting ready to sell

Neutral walls, bright ceilings and fresh trim photograph well and help buyers picture themselves in the house. An empty house is also the fastest one to paint.

Cost

How much does interior painting cost in Katy?

Interior painting is priced on the work involved, not a flat rate per room. We walk through the house, then send a free written estimate that lists every room and surface, so you can adjust the scope to fit your budget.

What affects the price

  • Number and size of rooms, and ceiling height
  • Which surfaces are included: walls, ceilings, trim, doors, railings
  • Amount of drywall repair, caulking and stain blocking
  • Big color changes, especially dark to light, which need extra coats or primer
  • Paint product and sheen chosen for each room
  • Furnished versus empty rooms

How to compare painting quotes

Two quotes for the same house can differ a lot because they do not cover the same work. Before you compare prices, check that each quote:

  • Every room or surface being painted is listed
  • Prep and repairs are spelled out, not just "prep included"
  • The paint brand, product line and sheen are named
  • The number of coats for each surface is written down
  • Furniture moving, protection and cleanup are covered
  • Anything excluded, such as major drywall or wood repair, is clear

Our written estimates include all of these, so you can compare them line by line.

Questions

Interior painting FAQ

How much does interior painting cost in Katy?

Interior painting is priced on the work involved rather than a flat rate per room: the size and height of each room, which surfaces are included, how much repair is needed, color changes and the paint chosen. After a walkthrough you get a free written estimate that lists each room and surface, so you can see exactly what is included and adjust the scope if you need to.

How long does it take to paint a room or a whole house?

A typical bedroom with walls, ceiling and trim is often finished in a day or two. A full interior repaint of a two-story home can take a week or more, depending on the number of rooms, ceiling heights, repairs and color changes. Your written estimate includes the expected number of working days.

Can we stay in the house while you paint?

Usually, yes. We work in stages so bedrooms, the kitchen and a bathroom stay usable, and we keep walkways clear at the end of each day. Let us know about pets, work-from-home schedules or anything else we should plan around.

How should I prepare my home for interior painting?

Take down art, mirrors, curtains and wall-mounted TVs, or tell us which ones you would like help with. Clear shelves, tabletops and small items from the rooms being painted, make a plan to keep pets away from wet paint, and confirm your colors and sheens before work starts. We handle the furniture and floor protection.

Do you move the furniture?

Yes. We move furniture away from the walls to the center of the room, cover it and put it back when the room is finished. Please clear small items, valuables and electronics yourself, and let us know about very heavy or fragile pieces such as pianos or large aquariums.

Do you repair drywall before painting?

Routine repairs (nail holes, nail pops, small dents, minor cracks and caulking gaps where trim meets the wall) are part of normal prep. Larger damage, such as water-damaged drywall or big holes, is discussed during the walkthrough and listed separately in the estimate.

How many coats of paint will my walls need?

It depends on the existing color, the new color and the condition of the surface. Big color changes and fresh patches generally need primer or two finish coats. The number of coats for each surface is written into your estimate.

What paint do you use?

We mainly use Sherwin-Williams interior paints and choose the product for each room: washable finishes for busy areas, moisture- and mildew-resistant paint for bathrooms, and low-VOC options where odor matters. The products for your project are listed in your estimate.

Will the house smell like paint?

Most interior paints today are water-based and much lower in odor than older products, and low-VOC options are widely available. We ventilate as we work. If anyone in the home is sensitive to odors, mention it and we will factor it into product choice and scheduling.

Does Houston humidity affect interior painting?

It can. High humidity slows drying, especially in bathrooms and rooms where the A/C is off. We keep the A/C running during the project where possible, allow proper time between coats, and use moisture- and mildew-resistant products in bathrooms and laundry rooms.

Do you paint ceilings, stair railings and doors?

Ceilings, interior doors, door frames and trim are standard parts of interior projects. Stair railings, spindles and other detailed woodwork can be included. They take more time, so they are listed as separate line items.

Can you paint before we move in or before we list the house?

Yes, and an empty house is the fastest and easiest time to paint. Tell us your closing, move-in or listing date when you request an estimate and we will plan around it.
